New park to be built in Gastonia

Ground has been broken for a recreation area in Gastonia.

What was once a golf course will become Linwood Springs Park. The property spans 140 acres near Crowders Mountain State Park along Linwood Road. Mayor Walker Reid said this is an important project that will be a robust recreation area, complementing the amenities at nearby Crowders Mountain State Park.

Such sites often turn to banner printing to inform the community of projects and their benefits for the community.

The new park will be completed in phases. During the first phase, renovations will include repairing existing bridges, several miles of trails paved with asphalt, and repairing sites for recreation vehicles with connections for power, sewers, and water. There are additional plans for an 18-hole golf course, a dog park, playgrounds, sand volleyball courts, fishing ponds, and parking areas.

Plans further in the future could include a ropes course, primitive camp sites, zip lines, facilities for events, and other amenities complementary to Crowders Mountain State Park.

The North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund gave the city a grant of $500,000 to begin the first phase of renovations. Proceeds from the General Obligation Transportation Bond and up to 1m in funding from the American Rescue Plan Act will be matched by the city.

It is expected that the project will be completed in between three and ten years.
