Plans are underway to transform the oldest mill in Bessmer City into commercial space and 139 affordable housing units. Residents of Gastonia looking for such apartments might be interested in this development.
WinnDevelopment, based in Boston, will be building the units in the mill, which is 125 years old and is a two-story building. Vice president of WinnDevelopment, Aimee McHale, expressed her excitement about this project, stressing that it will help to bring more tax revenue into the city and vitality into the downtown area.
It will have 12 units with three bedrooms, 77 with two bedrooms, and 50 with one bedroom. The different types of units will be throughout the first and second floors and will span from 730 to 1,224 square feet. The project will have a fitness center, a community center, multiple lounge spaces throughout the building, and a community mail room. Among the features on the exterior will be a playground for children, benches, and a dog park. Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about such projects and their features.
The project is expected to cost $42.5m to complete. Partial funding for the project will come from federal and state historic tax credits as the building is recognized as an historic structure. As such, the smokestacks and the water tank that are part of structure will remain.
