Gastonia presented with awards for training

The North Carolina League of Municipalities’ (NCLM) Advancing Municipal Leaders (AML) program has presented the city of Gastonia with two awards.

News of such awards and their benefits is often disseminated throughout a city with poster printing.

The city received the AML Learning Culture of the Year Award, which is given to the mayor/council and manager/council Forms of government the greatest number of people from the municipality completing training from the AML over the past year. Michael Peoples, city manager, said receiving this award is an important milestone in the training the city receives from the NCLM. He added that the community needs to know that learning and training are a priority for the city and its employees.

The city also received the AML Learning Excellence Award which is given to the elected official and municipal staff who completed the most training from the AML over the past year. Suzanne Gibbs, city clerk, expressed her excitement about receiving this award as she said this will help her to perform her job better and with more confidence.

Walker E. Reid, mayor of Gastonia, stated he was proud to be recognized by the NCLM for the training completed by city staff. He added that recognition such as this is important for the city and helps it continue to lead and govern.
