The ground has been broken on a new park and recreation area in Gastonia.
The new park is to be called Linwood Springs Park. Located near Crowders Mountain State Park, it will span 140 acres. The first phase of the building of the park will include an 18-hole disc golf course, a dog park, playgrounds, sand volleyball courts, and fishing ponds with piers. There will also be areas for parking, restroom facilities, and recreational vehicle (RV) sites. More details about the features of such parks can be covered with flyer printing.
The property was once a golf course. Walker E. Reid, mayor of Gastonia, expressed his excitement about offering more amenities outdoors for the residents of Gastonia to enjoy. He said that once the park is completed, the destination will complement the beauty of Crowders Mountain and highlight how diverse the city is.
The North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund gave the city a grant of $500,000 last year for the first phase of the redevelopment. Funding from the American Rescue Plan Act will be matched by the city in the amount of $1m, with additional proceeds coming from the General Obligation Transportation Bond.
Future development of the park could include primitive camp sites, venue facilities, zip lines, a ropes course, and other amenities complementary to Crowders Mountain State Park.
