Gastonia musician to be inducted into hall of fame

The North Carolina Music Hall of Fame will be holding a double-induction ceremony later this year.

One of the inductees this year is Donald Lawrence from Gastonia. He is a winner of the Grammy Award and is a vocal coach, producer of records, and songwriter of Gospel music. He has also won several Stellar Awards and was musical director of the talented Tri-City Singers. Poster printing is often used throughout a community to inform the public of such awards.

Lawrence is one of six award-winning and well-known artists from North Carolina. Others include Robert Moog, Tony Rice, and The Briarhoppers.

The Hall of Fame will also be honoring two past inductees with Lifetime Achievement Awards. One will be given to Roberta Flack, a singer-songwriter from Black Mountain and winner of a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020. The other will be given to Tony Brown, a record producer and pianist and winner of multiple Country Music Association awards and Producer of the Year.

The North Carolina Music Hall of Fame was incorporated in May 1994 as a non-profit organization. Its mission is to promote, recognize, and commemorate the heritage of the music industry in the state. Its headquarters are in Kannapolis where it has a museum to hold the memorabilia of its inductees.

The induction ceremony will be held in Kannapolis on Thursday October 21.
