Farm hosts therapeutic goat yoga

The Avery Family Farm is inviting the people of Durham to attend an unconventional yoga class surrounded by animals.

The yoga class is open to experienced and new yogis alike, and most of the poses will be on the ground so as to be close to the goats. The animals are the focus, with a few relaxing poses mixed in.

The hour-long session starts with a mindfulness exercise. The goat yoga session comes next, and it is a mixture of yin yoga and hatha yoga that is led by experts. After that, there will be an opportunity to take pictures before the yogis are guided to the handwashing area where they can also buy farm souvenirs and possibly even Promotional Products.

The farm has 23 Nigerian dwarf goats. They are a mix of babies and full-grown goats that have all been trained on how to cuddle. The farm also has two sheep that have been trained to be approachable to humans too. Yogis can bring treats for the staff will give to the goats at their regular feeding time.

The goat snuggling sessions will be at the Avery Family Farm and will be on every Saturday in July, except for July 30, starting at 11:30 am. Tickets are $23 ahead and it is recommended for people older than six years old.
