What's Happening in Olivette, MO…

St. Louis HELP needs volunteers

The St. Louis Health Equipment Lending Program (St. Louis HELP) is looking for volunteers to help at its upcoming donation drive. There are 14 different locations in the St. Louis area where assistance is needed.

The organization is looking for people from Olivette and other nearby areas to unload equipment as it is brought to the various locations, and to check it in. Those who agree to help will be asked to spent at least one hour at the site, but can agree to work longer.

The organization collects medical equipment used at home, refurbishes it, and then lends it, absolutely free of charge, to people in the area suffering from disabilities, illnesses, or accidents.

Almost every kind of medical device used in home healthcare is acceptable. This includes lift chairs, elevated toilet seats, portable commodes, hospital beds, canes, crutches, walkers, scooters, and both manual and electric wheelchairs.

The equipment collection drive is scheduled for October 8, from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm, at Walgreens across the area. Locations include Webster Groves, Afton, Rock Hill, Manchester, So. County, Chesterfield, Bridgeton, South City, Florissant, Belleville, Fenton, and Washington. There are two locations in St. Charles, and interested parties can get complete details by calling St. Louis HELP.

The organization conducts two equipment drives each year, but donations are accepted by appointment at any time.

Organizations like these can benefit by working with postcard printing companies, which can create cards for area-wide mailings.
