Olivette is a community that cares about the environment, and its gardeners are on the guest list for an activity that will show how choosing particular plants can make a yard friendlier to its feathered friends.
The city’s Parks and Recreation Department will be offering its "Birdscaping" workshop, and it will provide those who take part with practical tips for welcoming birds. It will run for one hour, and much of the focus will be on native plants.
The attendees in the session will find out how native species can offer food, shelter, and more for the avian set, and also how many birds and plants have evolved together. They will learn what functions they perform in the environment, and how to choose the best ones for a particular location. There will be tips shared for installing garden “hardware” such as feeders and water sources, and there is no fee being charged to take a seat.
A workshop or information session offers a way to make learning fun, and may include time for the audience to ask questions. Handouts as well as oversized visual learning materials may be helpful tools for an activity, and can be crafted by Print shops.
