Operation Food Search (OFS), an organization that seeks to relieve hunger by providing food to the needy in the area, just moved to a new location. OFS had been operating from a site in University City, but now has moved to Overland, and a headquarters building that comprises 67,000 square feet.

The building, which had been vacated years earlier, had been a window factory. OFS needed $2.27 million to buy the structure, and another $2.5m for renovations. They raised the money via a capital campaign they started in January.

The new facility allows OFS to use best practices in distributing food, including increased capability for product racking, advanced inventory management, larger refrigeration facilities for perishable items, and additional bays for trucks.

The new location also features a community kitchen where nutrition education and culinary classes can be held in conjunction with OFS other community-based efforts. The various spaces give stakeholders and member agencies a place to meet to create workable solutions for the long term, and decide how best to use the resources of the various organizations efficiently. A volunteer room has been built to encourage more people to become involved and help OFS in giving back to the community.

Sunny Schaefer, OFS's executive director, said this was the perfect time for the organization to move, as the holidays are their busiest time of the year.
