Olivette Turkey Trot gets Big River recognition

Big River Race Management has picked the races it finds most popular, and Olivette's Turkey Trot is on the list.

Big River times the races, and although it remains impartial, it cannot help but have a few favorites. It has chosen its nominees in the Debut, Festival, Swag, and Neighborhood Support categories, with final winners to be chosen in January or February.

The management group is encouraging everyone—runners, neighbors, or people who simply want to support their community—to cast their votes before the final winners are named. The judges are Big River's staff.

The Turkey Trot has won a spot in the Neighborhood Support category, along with the Race to the Shrine in Florissant, Missouri; the Missouri Lottery Run for Your Beads Mardi Gras 5K in St. Louis; the University City Memorial Day Run, also in St. Louis; and the Ferguson Twilight Run.

Big River Race Management was founded in 2007 in response to the numerous requests Matt Helbig, the owner, received to help organize and time local races. He felt the time had come to approach events more professionally. In its first year, Big River timed and managed about 20 races, then in 2009, Tom Eckelman teamed up with the young company, bringing 30 years' experience with him. In 2016, they timed over 160 races.

Big River will be counting votes until February 5, 2018. Organizers of events like this could create Flyers to mail to residents asking them to vote.
