What's Happening in Olivette, MO…

Olivette residents asked to join the fight against Parkinson's

The Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF) is asking people from all over the country, including Olivette, to join in the effort to learn about the disease.

The Foundation is urging members of the community to use PDF's resources, which include a free print and online toolkit, free posters printed in both Spanish and English, and free tree ribbons to make people aware of the disease and its impact on millions of sufferers and their families.

The PDF was founded in 1957 and, since then, has given more than $157m to help research, advocacy, and education efforts. Every April, the organization reaches out via its ‘You Can Help Us #End Parkinson's’ campaign, such as it is doing now. The campaign includes people who have the disease, their caregivers, health professionals, scientists, and others, and asks them to help make their communities aware of the disease, and the efforts being made to combat it.

The PDF has a number of suggestions for residents who want to get involved, including using its materials to set up a display at the local library, and organizing an educational event.

Should Olivette library staff seek to become involved, they might work with a postcard printing company on a mailer for the community, informing them of any Parkinson's displays at the library during April.
