Olivette residents will have a chance to recycle household items soon, in a three-pronged event where they can have documents shredded, recycle electronics, and dispose of prescription drugs, all at the same time and place.
Document recycling will be handled by American Document Destruction, which will accept and shred paper documents for free immediately upon receipt.
Electronics will be handled by MRC Recycling, which is an RIOS-R2 Certified Electronic Recycler. Electronics recycle is free, except for a few specific items. Residents will need to pay $5 for each CRT monitor, $30 each for CRT television sets of 26” or less, and $50 each for CRT televisions larger than 27”. Projection televisions, true big screen televisions, and wood console sets are $50 each, while Plasma/LCD/LED televisions are $5. Any type of unit that contains Freon carries a $10 recycling charge.
Prescription drug recycling is monitored by the Olivette Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Agency, and is free to residents. Needles, vitamins, and illegal drugs will not be accepted. To recycle prescription medications, all a resident need do is drive to the Drug Take Back area and drop the drugs in the chute.
The upcoming event is the city's third annual ‘Recycle Day’, and it is scheduled for July 28, from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon. The venue is the Olivette City Center on Dielman Road.
Organizers of this type of event often use banner printing to help participants locate the area.
