What's Happening in Olivette, MO…

Olivette opens registration for summer programs

The City of Olivette's Parks and Recreation Department recently announced that registration is now open for its summer programs. This year, there are six camps offered, and officials can use flyer printing to create needed materials for each.

Camp O is a traditional day camp with its home base located in the Community Center. Each week has a different theme, and activities are centered around it. They include science play, arts and crafts, sports, and music, among many others.

The mad scientists camps allow youngster to pretend they're secret agents by using forensics to investigate crime scenes, and work with the science used by spies. They can also have fun at a Gross Out Science camp, where they learn about subjects like boogers and burping, which gross out adults but kids love.

There's also the World of Design and an Artists' Camp, where youngsters explore drawing and design.

The offerings keep coming, as the parks department has devised two “medical” camps, one for people doctors and one for veterinarians. They are aimed at children who might like to consider careers in medicine, either human or animal.

The K.A.R.E.--Kindness. Action. Responsibility. Education.--camp introduces concepts of global causes and working with non-profit organizations.

Finally, two camps deal with technology. One delves into the Minecraft universe, and the other is a Lego camp.

Full details of all the camps, the schedule, age ranges and fees are on the city's website.
