Recently, Olivette’s City Manager was graduated from the Leadership St. Louis (LSL) program, the 43rd session of the course.
Barbara Sondag, along with 62 others, was selected from the nonprofit, public, and private sectors to attend the program, and now has joined over 2,000 leaders who have completed the program, which began in 1976.
LSL is nine months long, and is a well-respected program created for both emerging and established leaders who have demonstrated their commitment to improving life in St. Louis and the surrounding area. LSL is an immersive effort that brings leaders from the local area together to discuss the opportunities, challenges, and issues facing area communities.
The LSL curriculum includes issues such as the criminal justice system, culture and the arts, social services and poverty, education, racial equity, and economic development. As part of the course, attendees visit important sites throughout the area, talk face-to-face with decision makers, and learn the type of approaches to leadership that obtain results. Individuals that succeed in efforts like this could add the accomplishment to their Business Cards and Letterheads.
Sondag says that the course gave her the chance to talk about regional issues with people from a wide range of experiences and backgrounds, all the while applying the ideas to the concept of leadership. Sondag added that she found the program both empowering and challenging.
