LuLu Seafood has been serving St. Louis diners for 23 years from its University City location, and from two smaller stores and a food truck that it opened in recent years. Two weeks ago, it added still another store and opened LuLu Asian Kitchen in Olivette, Missouri.

The new spot offers fast-casual dining and its dishes are similar to those on the menu at Panda Express. In addition, it will provide authentic entrees, as well as Asian-style burritos, and various grab-and-go foods. All the menu items are made by real chefs who use nothing but the freshest possible ingredients.

LuLu's co-founder Julia Li opened the spot with Jenny, her mother, and says they would like the Olivette store to be the first in a chain of fast-casual LuLu restaurants. She also acknowledges that the stores are performing a balancing act: customers want both the dishes they're familiar with, like General Tso's chicken, that they're used to picking up quickly, but they also want fresh, healthy ingredients. To meet the need, Li says they'll offer both the familiar foods, but also authentic dishes like curry.

One of the most intriguing dishes is an Asian “burrito” similar to a dish known as a “jianbing,” which is popular as a snack or breakfast in Beijing. The concept of rolling meat and vegetables in a soft pastry wrapper is familiar, but the taste is entirely Asian.
