Historic balloon race to return to Olivette area

The Great Forest Park Balloon Race will return to the St. Louis area this September for its 49th edition.

The Race is a weekend-long festival that culminates in more than 50 hot air balloons taking to the sky. The competition uses a “Hare and the Hound” format, where one pack-leading balloon sets a target for other teams to drop birdseed or bean bags towards. Whoever gets closest to the centre of the target is declared the winner. The race day will also feature skydivers, a special opening ceremony, and multiple entertainment areas, including a music stage and a family picnic zone, with the aim of drawing in families and groups from throughout St. Louis and surrounding areas like Olivette and Ferguson.

The night before the race there will be a Balloon Glow display, with the pilots of hot-air balloons lighting up their crafts in bright colors, and a fireworks display. The park area will be home to a number of midway games, food trucks, and other vendors throughout the weekend. Public events like this can be a major opportunity for local vendors, who can use Business Cards and contact information to make long-term connections.

The 49th edition of the Great Forest Park Balloon Race will take place at Emerson Central Fields on September 18, with the Balloon Glow and fireworks display occurring on the 17th.
