Next month, the Annual #BlackWallStreet314 Festival will explore 50 years of hip-hop, featuring Doug E. Fresh.
An accomplished rapper, beatboxer, and record producer, Doug E. Fresh’s early records are highly sought after and hold considerable value. He made his recording debut in 1983 in a collaboration with DJ Spivey and Spoonie Gee. However, his breakthrough came in 1984 with "Beat Street," with the Treacherous Three ahead of him.
The #BlackWallStreet314 festival aims to celebrate Black culture and contribute to the community's efforts to tackle blight and neglect. This year's event will highlight the collaborative endeavors of residents in enhancing housing, such as apartment units and commercial project developments on Martin Luther King Boulevard.
The event is free to attend and individuals can register through the Eventbrite listing. Poster printing is a great way for organizers to provide information about festivals such as his one.
The event will be held on Saturday, June 24 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. It will be located at the Historic Wellston Loop on Martin Luther King Drive, St. Louis, so within commuting distance of nearby Olivette for local fans of the genre.
Doug E. Fresh takes the stage at 4:00 pm, with the earlier acts being T-Dubb, Bates, Tef Poe and Shorty AKA Reggae Son. These acts will appear at one-hour intervals during the afternoon.
