What's Happening in Olivette, MO…

Boundary-pushing music on the way for Olivette residents

Music is usually part of the holidays, and people in Olivette have a chance to hear a band that makes for a one-off experience this year.

The Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) will be coming to the area for one performance, which is sure to have the group's trademark pyrotechnics and special effects as part of the event.

Paul O'Neill founded TSO as a progressive rock band with a fairly simple goal—he wanted to push the boundaries of rock as far as possible, concentrating largely on creating rock operas. TSO seems to have achieved its goal, selling over 10 million albums worldwide, and winning the praise of Billboard magazine, which calls TSO one of the top touring bands ever.

One review of a live TSO performance noted that the band's music is an

“…enthralling mix of the classical and metal genres, [and] their music is powerful and inspiring and just a lot of damn fun to watch happen.”

The review went on to say that the word “spectacle” seems cumbersome as a term to describe the performance, but it fits. In the end, audiences may want to remember that TSO is a heavy metal rock band, though with a classical twist.

The Trans-Siberian Orchestra will be appearing at 3:00 pm on December 26, at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, a short drive from Olivette. Poster printing is often used to advertise events like this.
