What's Happening in Olivette, MO…

Acclaimed humorist to speak in Missouri

Popular comedic author David Sedaris will be speaking near Olivette this December to promote a pair of new books.

The event, called An Evening with David Sedaris, will feature Sedaris reading from his The Best of Me, a collection of previously published works, and new material from A Carnival of Snackery, a collection of diaries from the past two decades. There will be a question-and-answer session afterwards, followed by a book signing. Sedaris is known for his wry humor and poignant personal stories, having received acclaim for previous books like Me Talk Pretty One Day and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, as well as his appearances on This American Life and other National Public Radio programs.

Promotion for the reading highlights Sedaris as a speaker as well as a writer:

"To see him read his own work on stage allows his autobiographical narrative to reveal a uniquely personal narrative that will keep you laughing throughout the evening."

Sedaris’s reading will be hosted by the Stifel Theatre in St. Louis, and hopes to draw in fans from nearby areas like Olivette and Ferguson. Author talks like this, typically advertised through methods like flyer printing and social media, are a way to both raise awareness of new releases and bring people into bookstores.

An Evening with David Sedaris will take place on December 5 at the Stifel Theatre.
