St. Paul conference explores deafness

Next month, the TSA's Health & Wellness Conference 2024 will take place in St. Paul for medical and healthcare professionals interested in the complex relationships between deafness, dementia, and other health conditions.

Organized and hosted by Therapeutic Services Agency, Inc., the conference will continue topics that were discussed at the December 2023 presentation. The event is designed to appeal to professionals working in varied capacities within the deaf, deafblind, and hard-of-hearing communities, as well as those who serve in the mental health and psychology fields.

The presenter will be Dr. Jaime A.B. Wilson, Ph.D., ABN, ABPP, who is a board-certified neuropsychologist. Drawing from his own personal experience in the hard-of-hearing community, Dr. Wilson will present two integral presentations. "Unraveling the Deaf-Dementia Connection: New Insights and Strategies" will explore the connections between dementia diagnosis and having hearing loss, and "The Chameleon Effect: Medical Conditions that Look Like Psychiatric Illnesses" will discuss how some medical conditions as experience by individuals with hearing loss can mask as psychiatric conditions.

Professional workshops such as this often give attendees the opportunity to connect with like-minded peers and exchange ideas and Business Cards.

The conference is scheduled for May 3 from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. It will be held at the Fairview Community Health and Wellness Hub, which is located at 45 West 10th Street. Tickets are priced at $125.
