St. Paul class to teach healthy holiday dishes

Mississippi Market Co-Op will host an educational cooking class in St. Paul next month for those looking for ways to incorporate healthy ingredients in the holiday dishes.

Titled the In-Person at East 7th: Nourishing and Healing Holiday Dishes, the class will be led by Chef Lachelle Cunningham of Chelles’ Kitchen Catering. A pivotal figure in dismantling unhealthy stereotypes about comfort food, she is best known for her globally inspired comfort food cooking. The class will delve into how to use seasonal vegetables, herbs, and spices to create healthy-yet-delicious holiday meals.

Attendees will learn how to make a butternut squash soup that incorporates potassium, Vitamin A, and various antioxidants to help provide a boost in immune health. Participants will also learn how to make a savory cornbread utilizing fresh herbs that add both flavor and bone-supporting phosphorous. The meal will be rounded off with a traditional chai tea recipe said to aid in digestion and support heart health.

Cooking classes will often involve printed teaching materials in the form of Brochures and pamphlets. Organizers of such classes can receive help from local Print shops specializing in brochure printing services.

The class is scheduled for December 2 from 11:00am to 12:30pm. Mississippi Market Co-Op is located at 740 East 7th Street. The class fee is $15 for co-op members and $20 for nonmembers.
