Rochester will be on the lookout for creepy-crawlies over the coming weeks. While one event will take place in late June, and one in early August, a majority of the hunts will occur in July.
These activity days are meant to help kids learn more about the little creatures in the world around them. An adult is also required to attend with the child, so they can join in on the fun as well. The age range for this hunt is four to seven.
Naturalists will show attendees how to use their own bug net, which they will get to take home with them as a promotional product. In addition to this, they will also get to take home a tote bag with an activity book, a jar for their future catches, and a honey-flavored treat inside.
Parents can also continue the exploration at home by helping their child earn stickers for different insects and activities they find or complete.
There are multiple hunts on each day, with each one lasting 90 minutes. Quarry Hill Park, the location of the events, asks that only children registered for the event attend, so if a family has multiple children, each would need to have been registered. For members, the cost of this activity is $30. Non-members will have to pay $35.
The hunts take place on June 24, July 22, July 24, and August 5. Pre-registration, which is required, is able to be done through the park website.
