Rochester’s Mayo Civic Center is hosting a concert by the Punch Brothers this September.
The acoustic string band is touring in promotion of its seventh studio album, The Unsung Adventures of Punch Brothers, released in July on Nonesuch Records.
The album features three classic folk tracks reimagined, as well as eight new original songs. The Unsung Adventures is also the first album with the Punch Brothers’ newest member, violinist Brittany Haas, who joined back in 2023.
Founded in 2006 by mandolin player Chris Thile, the Punch Brothers have since made a name for themselves with a Grammy win for Best Folk Album for their 2018 effort All Ashore.
The Punch Brothers’ other albums include an homage remake of Tony Rice’s Church Street Blues album with 2021’s Hell on Church Street, 2015’s The Phosphorescent Blues, 2012’s Who’s Feeling Young Now and 2010’s Antifogmatic.
The band consists of not only Thile and Haas, but also banjoist Noam Pikelny, guitarist Chris Eldridge and bassist Paul Kowert.
Recently, the Punch Brothers have broken into the world of podcasting with their Webby Award-nominated musical variety show, The Energy Curfew Music Hour.
