Numerous car and body shops from Rochester, including Joe’s Auto & Tire, Adamson Motors and Northgate Imports, are reporting that they are swamped by the number of people who left it till the last minute to make sure their cars are ready for winter. Roger Berge who is Adamson Motors’ Department Manager mentioned that:
“You go from a nice steady pace the rest of the year to 100 calls before lunch plus all of the traffic coming through. While we’ve been here, I’ve got voicemails.”
According to him, auto shops always experience a spike in tire sales during the last two months of the year. Most shops sell more tires during this period than they do throughout the rest of the year. Consumers are likely to see more flyer printing and advertisements about winter tires during this time of year.
Berge also said that his crews are putting in overtime to meet the demand, often working through lunch and starting their workdays earlier in order to serve as many customers as possible. The extra work is taxing, but Berge feels that being safe on the road is important.
Winter tires are designed to make it easier for cars to turn corners, brake, and drive on hills when the roads are snowy or icy. Everyone who drives in a region that sees snow during the winter is advised to have them.
