A biotech firm from China known as New WuXi Life Sciences Investment Limited is working together with the Mayo Clinic to open its first facility in the United States.
The new facility will be located in Rochester at the corner of Second Avenue Southwest and Fourth Street. The Chinese firms’ partnership with Mayo Clinic is a one-year joint venture that will open up a new site dedicated to diagnostics and research. They hope that this new venture will help with the development of new products and provide better clinical care to patients.
Dr. William Morice, whose Business Cards show that he is the president of Mayo Clinic Laboratories, said in an announcement:
“This facility allows us to further leverage our existing knowledge and expertise in the esoteric diagnostics in a wide range of areas…to provide patients worldwide with laboratory testing that addresses their specific health care needs.”
Employees from WuXi have been working in Rochester in an unofficial capacity since the beginning of the year to get the project up and running. They’ve been working in a building which will be demolished as the Mayo Clinic aims to build a new building that will better suit its needs.
This is one of several partnerships that the Mayo Clinic has made recently. It also has new partnerships with Royal Phillips, Exact Sciences and Boston Scientific. These new partnerships will be working out of the same building, One Discovery, as the joint venture with WuXi.
