Minneapolis On Ice Program will be returning for its 20th year a couple of weekends in January and February.
Artists in the 2024 Art Shanty Projects will have the option of presenting in both indoor facilities and out on the ice in shanties. About half of the 36 entries will be indoors and the other half outside in the shanties.
Music will be a big part of the event and will include Kith and Kin Chorus, 76 voice choir singing in a sing-along format. In another “shanty,” attendees may dance to Klezmer music, a music form of Eastern European Ashkenzai Jews.
Color is another important aspect of the On Ice Program. Artist Alexander Aleman will exhibit the different floral of each season in his La Casa de los Sueños de Colores. Winter Plein Air Painters will demonstrate techniques and supervise as New Brighton guests paint with Berton Box pochades.
Literature will be the topic of the Banned Books Reading Room. Mesmerized by Books will be reading from banned Books every hour.
Attendees will be part of the film making process when they attend the Northern Star Film Studio shanty. Then they will be the audience for the performers on the performance stage.
