Minneapolis school board chair Jon Tynjala accepted the award for the school’s behalf on January 16, 2013. He said:
“Every once in a while, if you're lucky, you get to be part of something that has the potential to be a game changer. And that's what Early College is. This program has the potential to change the future trajectories of the lives of students who may not have thought college was even a possibility for them."
With this award, the school will have a lot to celebrate. Doubtless the school’s Stationery printers are looking forward to adding this achievement to the school’s already long list of accomplishments.
The award, which is sponsored by The Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs in partnership with InCommons, was established to encourage cities, counties, and schools to make the state of Minnesota improve its spirit of innovation. The Early College at Irondale High School program has been established for years.
Tynjala added:
"We did not do this for the attention that we have received. But it is, nonetheless, an affirmation of the work that has been done so far. And for that, we are grateful, and we thank you."
