Beginning this Friday, March 22, the Grand Rapids Players of Minnesota will be presenting ‘The Man of La Mancha’ as this year’s offering of its annual spring musical.
The play is based on the novel by Miguel Cervantes, ‘The Ingenious Gentleman Dan Quixote of La Mancha’, which is a play within a play wherein Cervantes relates how he was thrown in prison during the Spanish Inquisition and needed to be tried by the thieves and murderers who surrounded him. He then creates a play that tells the story of Don Quixote, where his fellow prisoners get to perform various roles in the play.
The roles of Cervantes and Quixote will be performed by Mike Raymond, who has been a resident of Bigfork for the past few years and has been looking to be in this show for the past 35 years. Since moving back to where he was born in Minnesota, he has been involved with the EdgeWild Players and jumped at the chance to audition for the role of the main character in the play when he learned that it was being planned by the Grand Rapids Players. The character of Quixote’s right-hand man, Sancho, will be performed by Malcom Wessing.
Performances are scheduled for this Friday and Saturday, and next Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm, with a matinee this Sunday at 2:00 pm. No doubt flyer printing and poster printing are being used by the group to let the community know of this and the other upcoming performances, so that as many people as possible can attend.
