What's Happening in Fairmont, MN…

Fairmont snack class teaches cooking

Working in the kitchen can be a fun way for kids to pick up skills they may find useful in the future, and Fairmont families have been invited to take advantage of an opportunity to learn some basic cookery skills.

The Southern Educational Campus is set to welcome the kids who sign up for the Silly Snacks workshop. The registration fee is $10.00, and the class will be held on a Friday afternoon.

The instructor for the class will be Michele Bisbee, and she will be teaching the attendees how to prepare an assortment of snacks. It’s for kids entering grade 2, and it will be hands-on. The learners will chop and mix while they prepare the cuisine, and safe food handling will be stressed. Everyone will get some practice at measuring ingredients, and they will be able to do some taste testing before they head for home.

A cookery class can make learning fun, and may be a gentle way to encourage kids to practice math, as it involves weighing, measuring and using fractions. Recipe cards and other learning materials for a session can be prepared for an activity by stationery printers.

This activity, which is being offered by Fairmont Area Schools, will be offered on October 27th. It will start at 1:00 pm, and the final date to register is October 10th.
