Being home alone for the first time is an important rite of passage for many kids, and a Fairmont program will help to make sure the experience is a safe one.
Fairmont Area Schools has scheduled its Home Alone! Workshop to both give skills and knowledge youngsters can use when they are on their own, and it will also provide peace of mind to their parents. It will run for two hours, and the Southern MN Educational Campus will be the venue for the afternoon.
The instructor will supply practical tips and information geared towards those in Grade 2 and up. It will cover topics such as age guidelines, afterschool routines, house rules, safe habits, and what to do should something unexpected come up. Basic first aid and fire safety will be reviewed, and everyone will learn what to do in case of a knock at the door. The registration fee is $40 each.
Workshops often compress a lot of learning into a small amount of time. Manuals, handouts, and other materials, as well as certificates of completion, can be prepared for an activity by Stationery printers.
This chance for Fairmont’s young people to hit the ground running when it comes to being home on their own will be on Thursday, October 16. Registration closes on October 9.
