Board explores ways to improve communication between teachers

Educators from Fairmont Elementary School recently met with the school's board to discuss ways to make the learning experience more efficient. The main topic of discussion was a book study hosted at the school over the course of the year.

A total of 50 people attended the first few meetings and 40 of them decided to keep going regularly. The people who attended were stakeholders in numerous parts of the educational system. The Business Cards for the people who attended showed that there were paraprofessionals, general education teachers, and special education teachers who took an interest in the program.

A survey was held at the end of the classes and it showed that what the attendees wanted most out of the study was a structure that allowed teachers and other staff members to communicate better.

When the board asked what can be done to improve the communication structures, the project coordinators pointed out that the solution is as simple as setting time aside in their schedules to check up on each other. Rufus Rodriguez, one of the Fairmont School Board members, stated:

“Collaboration and communication seem so simple but it’s often missing. It’s a missing component that can make a huge difference if it is there.”

At the same meeting, the board also approved a bid placed by Weather Technologies, Inc. (WTI) to repair the performing arts center’s. WTI’s bid was for $120,632.
