Chanhassen will be hosting a tribute to a timeless record in early 2023.
The album “Bridge Over Troubled Water” was released by Simon and Garfunkel in 1970. At an upcoming concert at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, the album will be performed in its entirety by Jeff Engholm & the Collective Unconscious.
The artists will use horns and strings to recreate the original arrangements in detail. Audiences will hear tricks like “Cecilia,” “Kodachrome,” “Sounds of Silence,” “Scarborough Fair,” and “Mrs. Robinson.”
The Collective Unconscious first got together in Spring 2000, to support “Summit Climb,” the inaugural solo CD dropped by Jeff Engholm, who is now the outfit’s bass player and lead singer. The current line-up comprises Engholm, George Maurer, Scott Chabot, Muggsy Lauer, and the Fabulous Armadillos, who count Lauer among their members. Most of the members of the Collective are also in other bands.
As an album, “Bridge Over Troubled Water” is both light-hearted and deeply philosophical. Critics have noted that it serves to mark the division between two very different decades – the optimistic 1960s and the much more cynical “me” decade of the 1970s.
There are three performances – January 12, 13, and 14 – at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. All shows are at 8:00 pm, with dinner at 6:00 pm. When this type of event is planned, organizers can use brochure printing to create informative programs.
