Chanhassen makes the most of winter

An annual event celebrating the cold months is coming to Chanhassen.

The 33rd annual February Festival will take place on Lake Ann, located at Lake Ann Park. An ice fishing contest is the centerpiece of the event, which also includes free activities for the family, a medallion hunt, door prizes, and beverage and food concessions. Family activities include horse-drawn wagon rides, kicksledding, snowshoeing, and bonfires. Chanhassen Scout Troop #330 will be selling s’mores kits.

Prizes for the ice fishing contest will be awarded to the people who catch the 50 heaviest fish of any species it is legal to catch. If there is a tie, the person who caught their fish first will win. Additional rules include the fact that all holes will be predrilled. No enclosures or fish house sheds will be allowed, though depth finders and underwater cameras are permitted.

Northern pike measuring from 24 to 36 inches in length, or any length of largemouth bass, are ineligible for the contest. All contestants aged 16 and older will need fishing licenses, and each contestant needs to buy their own ticket. Fish caught by one person and given to another will not count. Tickets must be displayed during the contest.

The occasion is set for February 7. Tickets for the ice fishing contest are $10 and the contest runs from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm, although the event opens an hour before this. Events like this can be advertised with colorful Posters found at Print shops.
