Chanhassen celebrates nature on key date

For over 20 years, Chanhassen has marked a special day, and the city continues the tradition in 2026.

The annual Tree Planting Event is part of the city’s Arbor Day observation. Each year, Chanhassen residents have a chance to help beautify local parks by increasing the diversity of the species in the area, improving shared open spaces, and expanding the canopy. Part of the effort is planting trees, and this year, volunteers expect to plant 20 trees, a number that represents eight different species. The trees will be planted throughout South Lotus Lake Park.

The day starts with snacks and refreshments in the gazebo, which will be served while volunteers arrive. At approximately 9:00 am, they will move to the planting site where they will watch a brief demonstration, then split into groups to start planting trees at various locations in the park. After they finish planting each tree, volunteers will add mulch and a wearing device.

Shovels and gloves will be provided by the city, though volunteers may bring their own. The event is family friendly, and no registration is necessary. Organizers recommend that volunteers wear closed-toed shoes they do not mind getting stained.

After the planting is done, volunteers are welcome to enjoy more refreshments, have fun making seed bombs, or playing frisbee with discs provided.

The tree planting is scheduled for Saturday, May 2 at 9:00 am. Events like this benefit everyone if organizers use flyer printing to create a list of instructions.
