An upcoming musical will bring back memories of a difficult time in recent history, but one that is also remembered for its music.
The Chanhassen Dinner Theatres’ Main Stage will be the venue for “What’s Goin’ On? – Songs from the Vietnam War Era.” The event is a multi-media experience that will use video, narration, and live music to explore the 1960s and early 1970s, an era that includes the Vietnam War. Vietnam is well within the memory of most people, who will recognize songs like the title tune. Artists whose songs are likely to be included in the performance are The Animals, Jimi Hendrix, and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Although the history of the Vietnam era is turbulent, the show ends on a hopeful note. The narrator, a veteran of the conflict, says that the division we see in the nation today is nothing compared to that of the past.
The show is a production of the popular group, the Fabulous Armadillos. They are based in St. Cloud and got their start in 2006, where they became a regular guest at the Pioneer Place On Fifth Theater where they created various “themed seasons” featuring subjects such as “Motown” and “Stadium Rock.”
The show is set for June 8 at 7.30 pm. In order to support performances like this, organizers can work with poster printing to create colorful advertisements for them.
