Chanhassen theater hosts tribute to iconic artists

An upcoming concert in Chanhassen will pay tribute to two outstanding musical greats.

Chanhassen Dinner Theatres is the venue for the upcoming “Luther Luvs Whitney—Songs of Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston” event, a soulful remembrance of the ballads, dance hits, and love songs that people have loved for decades, aiming to remind audiences why they adore the two artists’ music like they do.

The show features hits from both artists, but also does something special, going back to their early careers, before superstardom, when they worked as backing vocalists. It also gives a nod to the other musicians who influenced the careers of the legends.

Cornisha Garmon, a powerful vocalist, is the driving force of the show, backed up with special appearances by Rhonda Johnson, Lamont Keten, and surprise guests. Garmon is known for her work with Angie Stone, Mariah Carey, and Sounds of Blackness, as well as appearing at The Depot in Minneapolis as part of the annual awards show “Celebrating the Sistas,” and performing the songs of Chaka Kahn along with Monique Blakely.

“Luther Luvs Whitney” is scheduled for September 20, in the Fireside Theater at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. Events like this can benefit when organizers work with brochure printing to create programs for audience members, who often want to learn more about the performers and the subjects.
