Huge Renaissance event near Chanhassen

One of the biggest events of the year is coming up soon near Chanhassen.

The Minnesota Renaissance Festival is getting set up in Shakopee, Chanhassen’s neighbor. The festival gives people who love the Renaissance the chance to dress up in costume and go back hundreds of years in time, where they will find knights and ladies, jousts, jesters, live entertainment, vendors, artisan demonstrations, and delicious fair food. Events like this are often promoted by organizers who may use poster printing to create stunning advertisements.

Vendors include jewelers, glass artisans, woodworkers, metalsmiths, potters, and more. A look at the list of artists shows the variety available. Dark Moon Designs does custom stained-glass panels; Angel Sword makes bladed weapons; and Medieval Metals makes crowns and hair armor.

Entertainers are still being finalized, but will include stage performers, street performers, musical groups, and jousting. Several stars have gotten their start at the festival, including Jason Mraz, and Penn & Teller.

Of course, part of the fun is the food typical of these events, which might include everything from ice cream to turkey legs.

The festival is expected to draw 300,000 visitors, and opens the weekend of August 17, and runs every weekend from then until September 29. It is also open on Labor Day, and September 27, which is designated Festival Friday. In addition, the festival is an all-weather event, and is open from 9.00 am until 7.00 pm.
