Chanhassen residents will have a chance to participate in an unusual event that will help improve their homes.
The Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District has organized a workshop where participants will learn how to build a rain barrel. These will be created by converting an oak barrel once used for storing wine into one that can hold water.
Rain barrels can reduce the amount of water flowing across a homeowner’s property by collecting the water from their roof and storing it to be used later on the lawn or garden.
The wine barrels are likely to have visual imperfections, though they can obviously hold liquids. Organizers believe these flaws add to their charm. The barrels are also heavy, weighing more than 100lb each. It is the responsibility of the person attending the workshop to transport the barrel when the class is finished.
People who would like to attend the class must be residents of the sponsoring watershed district, and a limit of one barrel per household applies. However, due to their size and weight, attendees may be accompanied by someone helping them to get the barrel home.
The rain barrel workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, from 5.30 pm until 6.30 pm, at the
Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District. The address is 18681 Lake Drive East in Chanhassen. Organizers of events like this will often use flyer printing to create instruction sheets for attendees.
