Shelby Township to hold annual ceremonies for Memorial Day

The annual Memorial Day Ceremony will be taking place in Shelby Township later this week.

Such special events are often promoted throughout a community with poster printing.

The event will be a meaningful and solemn occasion which will remember and honor the sacrifices of the veterans of this country. Rick Stathakis, Shelby Township Supervisor, will open the ceremony with a warm welcome and will express the gratitude of the township to those who have served.

Distinguished Vietnam combat veteran and Shelby Township Veterans Event Coordinator, Phil Randazzo, will also speak at the ceremony. Randazzo has received two Bronze Stars for Valor and two Purple Hearts, and was named the Macomb County Veteran of the Year in 2020.

The invocation will be delivered by Dr. Philip Krist of Lakeside Assembly of God, while Honored Speaker Judge Stephen Siewarski will share the enduring legacy of those who have served, as well as reflections on the significance of Memorial Day.

Other elements of the ceremony will include musical tributes and the placement of the memorial wreath. Ken Kazmierski and Pete Powinski will perform the national anthem while Boy Scout Troop #156 and their assistant scoutmaster will lead the pledge of allegiance.

The Memorial Day Ceremony will take place this Sunday, May 26 at 1:30 pm at the Shelby Township Veterans Memorial on Van Dyke Avenue.
