Shelby Township is planning to build a pedestrian bridge along 25 Mile in northern Macomb County.
The bridge will be over the Middle Branch of the Clinton River, west of M-53 and east of Van Dyke Avenue. It will be eight feet wide, with a prefabricated pedestrian bridge measuring 120 feet long.
This will ensure that one of the last sidewalk gaps on the north side of 25 Mile Road between Shelby Road and Jewell Road will be closed so that students will be able to walk to Eisenhower High School and William E. Malow Junior High.
The project is expected to cost $1.3m. Most of the cost will be covered by a grant of $817,980 from the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) to grant to Shelby Township. A planner for SEMCOG, Brian Pawlik, said that this bridge is an example of the type of project that helps to implement the Bicycle and Pedestrian Mobility Plan for Southeast Michigan of his organization. The consulting engineering firm for the township is Anderson, Eckstein & Westrick, Inc.
More details about such projects and their benefits for a community can be made known with flyer printing.
Design work for the bridge needs to be completed by the end of next year so that construction can begin in late 2026 or early 2027. The bridge is expected to take six months to complete.
