The Shelby Township Community Park has become a popular attraction in the town since it opened last year, and now construction has begun on an indoor sports and community facility right next to it.
Spanning 65,000 square feet, it will be called the Tiger Athletic Community Center. It is meant for those in rural communities who often have to travel long distances for indoor athletics. Funding for the project, which will cost $6.9m, will be funded by sponsors and private donations, as well as by the state.
The facility will feature a one-lane archery range; softball and baseball nets for pitching and batting; a community room for checkers, chess, and coffee; half courts for basketball, pickleball, and volleyball; and half turfs for football training and soccer. Younger siblings of those involved in recreational sports programs will have a play area for hanging out. It will also be available for rent for birthday parties and other events.
The facility will also have a pizza room, an arcade room, a rock-climbing wall with three levels for different ages, and a bouncy house. A reading room with arts and crafts will also be on site.
Such planned facilities can benefit from flyer printing to highlight their features and amenities to encourage their use when opened.
The facility is expected to open in February 2026.
