Bridge to be rebuilt in Shelby Township

An investment has been secured by Shelby Township from the state of Michigan for the Schoenherr Road bridge to be rebuilt. This is a major milestone towards improving one of the most dangerous roadways in the community.

The Clifton River Bridge crosses the Middle Branch of Clifton River on Schoenherr Road and is just north of Shelby Township Fire Station #4. Schoenherr Road is an important route that connects businesses, residents, and visitors to shopping centers, schools, neighborhoods, and major regional highways.

Reconstructing the bridge is a major element of Phase 2 of the Schoenherr Road corridor upgrade between 25 Mile and 26 Mile Roads. The project will transform Schoenherr Road from a route with two lanes and without shoulders into a wider roadway featuring a turn lane in the center for three miles starting at 23 Mile Road, along with clearly defined shoulders. Once completed, the developments are expected to improve traffic movement, increase roadway safety, and modernize a critical transportation corridor used by thousands of drivers each day.

Rick Stathakis, Shelby Township Supervisor, expressed his thanks to the town’s state representatives for advocating to include this project in the budget for 2027. He added:

“Together with the Macomb County Department of Roads, Macomb County Public Works and Utica Community Schools we presented the state with an undeniable solution for a critical need.”

Banner printing can be used along such major corridors to inform travelers of upgrades and their benefits for the community.
