Fouchia has worked as Acting Fire Chief for the past six months and has more than 25 years of experience in the position. Most of his experience has been with Shelby Township.
He was hired in August 2000. His career has been built on innovation, services, and dedication to training the next firefighter generation. During his career he spent over two years in the role of Assistant Fire Chief, Training Chief for two years, six months as EMS Coordinator and Captain, three years working as Lieutenant/Medic, and 17 years as paramedic/firefighter.
Prior to joining the town, he served the Lenox Township Fire Department. His father, Dennis Fouchia, served as their Fire Chief for over 20 years. His father said that Josh is a third-generation firefighter. He added that in the history of Macomb County, there are only four other families where father and son have served as fire chief.
Stan Grof, Clerk of Shelby Township, expressed his faith in the leadership of Fouchia, adding:
“it is about standing shoulder to shoulder with those who answer the call, while never losing sight of the resources they need to come home safely at the end of their shift.”
