An amount of $50,000 has been awarded to Shelby Township from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Legacy Funds for the construction of a universally accessible fishing and kayak launch dock at River Bends Park.
The Clinton River Water Trail runs through River Bends Park. The current kayak or canoe launch and fishing site area is a dirt path with a steep incline, so those with mobility disabilities are not able to use it at present. The Shelby Township Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department will be installing an “EZ launch” kayak launch at the current launch. The township will also be upgrading the pathways and parking lot to ensure easy access for everyone.
Attention is often drawn to such important projects and their benefit for the community with flyer printing.
The construction of a universally accessible boat launch will enable the Shelby Township Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department to strengthen the network of accessible launches so that more people can use the Clinton River Water Trail.
The coordinator of the Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center and a naturalist in Shelby Township, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Schultz, said that this project is important to her as an avid paddler. She added that floating down the Clinton River should be an experience free of barriers and that she is honored to make this project come to life in her community.
