A state-of-the-art Outdoor Fitness Park has recently been introduced by the Shelby Township Senior Center.
Located on 21 Mile Road behind the Shelby Township Activities Center, the park is designed specifically for senior citizens and will offer an opportunity for people to improve their overall health by engaging in physical activity and enjoying the outdoors. The park has equipment and weights that were carefully selected and accommodates people of all levels of fitness. Each piece of equipment is designed to provide a workout that is well-rounded and offers a comprehensive approach to fitness for seniors.
The equipment at the park includes a set of dumbbells with weights from 5 to 25 pounds, one leg press, one step-up bar vault, two cardio walkers, yoga mats and jump ropes, and one chest press, among others. Printed instructions for the use of such machines are often made possible by local Print shops.
Seniors need to register every year as members in order to use the park and other activities and events organized by the Shelby Township Senior Center. Residents of Shelby Township and Utica can register for $5.00 while the cost for non-residents is $10.00.
Joe Youngblood. Director of the Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department, said that a Community Development Block Grant made this safe and supportive park environment possible exclusively for those 50 years of age and older.
