Saginaw museum to host interactive Shakespeare events

The Saginaw Art Museum and Saginaw Township Community Schools Theatre and Drama group (STCS Drama) are presenting a two-part Shakespeare in the Garden event this May.

Act 1 will be an educational experience for kids. Attendees can visit interactive stations in the museum and its garden to learn about different components of theater. These will include set design, physical movement and costumes. Some of the centers will be outside, so attendees should dress for the weather.

Act 2 will feature STSC drama student actors. Their performances from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream will take place in different spots around the museum. STSC drama includes students from White Pine Middle School and Heritage High School. The group aims to make attending and acting in the theater accessible to Saginaw’s students. Its leaders believe strongly in the career and life skills theater can help students develop.

Both Shakespeare in the Garden events are free to attend. A combination of local businesses and state, local and national arts organizations are covering the cost. Registration is not required, but it is encouraged to assist the museum with planning. Museums often use poster printing services to promote their events.

Shakespeare in the Garden Act 1 will take place on Saturday, May 11 from 1 pm to 4 pm. Act 2 will take place on Friday, May 17 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
