Saginaw museum to celebrate young artists

The Saginaw Art Museum is hosting a Youth Arts Festival this spring.

The two-day event is free to attend and will highlight young artists in Saginaw’s middle and high schools. Doors open at 5:00 pm on the Friday evening, and a performance from the White Pines Middle School Theatre will kick off the event. Attendees can watch student films at 6:30 pm, and there will be open studio time for teens from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

On the Saturday afternoon, art activities will be available in different spots throughout the museum. There will be a face painter, and Maria’s Food Truck will have lunch and snacks available for purchase. Food truck owners often use printing services to design and create Menus for display. Musical performances will start in the museum gardens at 12:30 pm. These will feature groups including the Hemmeter Violin Club, the Saginaw Bay Youth Orchestra and Major Chords for Minors. The full schedule is available on the museum’s website.

Student filmmakers 18 and younger can submit their projects to the festival until next Monday, May 19. Films can be silent or may have dialogue or background music, and can be in any genre. Additional requirements and details are listed on the online application form.

The Saginaw Youth Arts Festival will take place on Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31 at the Saginaw Art Museum and Gardens.
