Special jazz program comes to Denmark arts center

The Bradley Jazz Collective will be performing at the Denmark Arts Center next month. Performances such as these often turn to poster printing used throughout a community to promote themselves.

There are five members of the group: Jed Wilson who plays piano, Al Hospers who plays the bass, Mike Sakash who plays the saxophone, percussionist Craig Bryan, and vocalist Mimi Rohling. Their performance will include jazz standards from the 1950s and 1960s, and features the music of George Gershwin, Charlie Parker, Herbie Hancock, and Thelonius Monk, among others. It will be a diverse program with bossa nova, ballads, and swing.

The group was formed in the fall of 2014, performing a series of concerts called “Bradley Street Backstage” at the Performing Arts Center of Fryeburg Academy. The concerts were sold out, so the group decided to remain together and performed throughout Maine and New Hampshire. Their music is generally their own interpretations of jazz classics, along with some pieces they wrote themselves, inspired by the tradition of small jazz groups.

The performance of the Bradley Jazz Collective will be on Saturday, October 12 beginning at 7:00 pm. All tickets are general admission, with $35 for a family, $8 for children under the age of 18, $12 for those over the age of 65, and $15 for adults.
