Special art exhibit featured at arts center

A show of contemporary landscape paintings by a trio of artists from New Hampshire and Maine will be on display at the Denmark Arts Center. The exhibit is called “Painting the Light.”

Such exhibits often turn to a graphic design team to help with promotion and disseminating information throughout a region.

The artists are Jeanne Ouellette and Linda Gray (who paint with oils) and Janet Gill (who use pastels). All three artists are inspired by the ever-changing and vibrant light on the landscapes that they paint outdoors at the scenes and in their studios.

Gill said that she is drawn to the energy which can be achieved with the marks and strokes of pastels. Gray lives in the Mount Washington Valley and her work is inspired by the dramatic elements found on the coastal islands of Maine and in the White Mountains. Ouellette is also guided by the foothills of the White Mountains and the landscapes in Western Maine.

There will be an opening celebration of the exhibit tomorrow, August 6 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with drinks, light hors d’oeuvres, and instrumental music by Vanessa Jones. The exhibit will run through Saturday September 24. The Denmark Arts Center Gallery which is in the Odd Fellows Hall in town is opened each Saturday from noon to 4:00 pm.
