New affordable housing comes to Denmark area

The Snow School Apartments will be opening in Fryeburg next month. This project includes 28 apartment units for seniors who are 55 years of age and older. Residents of nearby Denmark looking for such housing may be interested in this project.

Snow School Apartments is on Pine Street and was built on the site of what was once the Charles A. Snow School. This was an elementary school from around 1923 that was closed in 2017. The project demonstrates how public property which is unused can be repurposed to create a resource for the community.

The town of Fryeburg sold the property to Avesta Housing. Avesta demolished the building and built the units.

The project cost $9.7m to build and was designed by CWS Architecture + Interior Design of Scarborough. Optimum Construction Co. of South Portland built the apartment units and over two dozen local suppliers and subcontractors took part in the construction.

The building offers both one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. Other amenities in the project include a community room and a shared laundry room. Such developments often use brochure printing to offer more details about their amenities and features.

Avesta Housing is a non-profit organization that provides affordable housing. The company has been in business for 50 years with experience in property management and the development of affordable housing in New Hampshire and Maine.
